For some reason I'm reminded of the old upper class twit of a restaurant reviewer as played by Adrian Edmonson in an episode of Absolutely Fabulous. Can't think why....
Thanks Andy , really just reinforcing what I had been thinking recently . Restaurant reviews have got mind-numbingly tedious , irrelevant and badly written . Can just about put up with Jay Rayner and have a liking for Tim Hayward . I am sorry but the rest in the mainstream press are repetitive and so far out of touch as to be works of fiction . Please , please can editors everywhere pull their pencils out of their butts and get sharpening them .
RIJKS has been on my bucket list for many years, but I changed jobs and my chance business trips to Amsterdam dried up. It’s high on the list for next time.
It was so good. It's a beautiful room, fantastic food, an outstanding wine list and the service was amazing. It was Christmas Day, the place was absolutely rammed and they served us some room-temperature house fizz which was understandable given how busy they were, I expect they were getting through it at a tremendous rate. I said that it wasn't properly chilled and they not only replaced the fizz but later on in the meal the sommelier served us a glass of Meursault from Bitouzet Prieur to compare to the chardonnay from the same producer that we'd actually ordered. Then a glass of 10-Year-Old Cossart Gordon Maderia appeared with the dessert and to top it all off they comp'd the round of pre-lunch drinks we'd had in the bar. I didn't even really complain.
I thought the food was exceptional, great use of acidity and subtle spice and heat. The saucing was particularly good - I'd never had a gilda sauce before which I thought was a brilliant idea. The whole meal was just so full of invention and surprise but most importantly it was all delicious. For a restaurant of that standard it also very good value. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Happy Birthday! Please keep bringing us the laughs over here
Thanks very much and thanks for reading, really appreciate it.

Oh God, I hope you don't mean me, although I don't think I saw that episode.
